Keynote Speaker: Jacob Shaffer
Jacob has been working for the USDA/NRCS for 17 years as a Soil Conservationist and has resided in Parker County since 2014. Jacob has experience working with conservation practices in 5 offices, 3 zones, and ecological regions ranging from Western Coastal Plain to Central Rolling Red Plains. This diverse work environment under several different management styles, has allowed Jacob to see what is effective and what is not effective regarding management styles of various field offices. During Jacob’s work with NRCS he has overseen the installation of 30 plus storage tanks ranging from 2,500 gallons to 65,000 gallons with an annual potential water savings of over 800,000 gallons.
Jacob, with a little luck from very patient tutors, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Systems Management with a double minor in Business Administration and Agronomy in 2004 from Texas A&M University College Station. Having had such a grand time, he returned to complete a Master of Science degree in Agronomy in 2007. Masterfully, with many energy drinks, defending his thesis on the topic, wheat grain yield responses to seeding date and rate under rainfed conditions in Texas.
Jacob currently resides off grid with his Golden Retriever Murphy and claims rainwater has improved his crossword puzzle skills and facial hair.
