TD Smyers - Leading Boldly
Succession Coach
TD Smyers will speak to helping establish clarity, confidence and character. "A Leader has to know when to challenge the rules, then write new ones; how to make the right call when it's unpopular then lead into an uncertain future and how to comprehensively assess risk, then mitigate it and press on."
TD Smyers is a career servant leader with over 30 years of top-level executive experience across all three major economic sectors. As an executive coach specializing in succession, his clients include top executives and prospective top executives from across the country.
Before establishing his coaching consultancy, TD took a two-year career pause to cruise the US Atlantic Coast, Bahamas and Caribbean with his wife Barbara aboard their sailing catamaran La Vie Dansante.
The unique perspective TD brings to leadership was shaped by diverse community service experience, including roles as President & CEO at United Way of Tarrant County; Regional CEO at the North Texas American Red Cross and a 31-year career in the United States Navy, from which he retired in 2011 at the rank of Captain. TD’s final role in uniform was serving as Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base. Prior to taking command of NAS Fort Worth JRB, TD’s uniformed service included tours as Director of Congressional Affairs and Director of Collaborative Warfare for Navy Aviation at the Pentagon, and Command of Patrol Squadron Sixty-Two in Jacksonville, Florida.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree in Resource Strategy from the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School.
TD is a graduate of Leadership North Texas and Leadership Fort Worth’s LeaderPrime. He’s served on the boards of numerous civic organizations and led civilian support of USS Fort Worth and her Sailors as Chair of the Commissioning Committee. TD was awarded the Legion of Merit for his leadership at NAS Fort Worth, and The Fort Worth Business Press recognized him as the City’s Top Non-Profit CEO in 2019.
