Lunch & Learn: Guns & Your Rights as a Business Owner or Gun Owner

Guns and Your Rights as a Business Owner or Gun Owner.
Local, criminal-defense attorney, Andrew Decker, will be the keynote speaker at the March 27 Lunch and Learn sponsored by the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce. The topic of his talk will be Texas gun laws and more specifically licensed carry laws in Texas.
The Lunch & Learn is an opportunity to learn about your rights as a citizen regarding when and where you may carry a weapon. It will also give you some guidance as a business owner regarding your rights to allow or not allow persons to carry a firearm into your establishment.
Decker said regarding this topic, “I have clients who faced criminal charges for violations of gun laws simply because they did not fully understand the limits of their right to carry a weapon. Good people found themselves in handcuffs because they thought they knew what the law was and they were mistaken, I have also seen businesses which have poorly posted 30.06 and 30.07 criminal trespass notices, which would probably not stand-up to a challenge in court. In short, both parties of the issue need to know their rights and the limitations on their rights when it comes to the licensed carry laws in Texas.”
Not only has Decker dealt with the current gun laws in criminal defense, but he has drafted guidelines for a local municipality’s City Hall as well as signage regarding licensed and concealed carry. He has also provided opinion letters and legal counsel to local churches, at their request, to help the local congregation develop policies regarding licensed and concealed carry in their place of worship.
The Lunch & Learn luncheon will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, 175 Alford, Weatherford, TX on Monday, March 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is included, cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members.
