Grogan Historic Plaza - Ribbon Cutting

Weatherford College officials have scheduled a ribbon cutting at the newly-named Roy and Jeanne Grogan Historic Plaza Thursday, November 10 at 10:15 a.m.
The WC Board of Trustees recently named the outdoor display after the Grogans in honor of their longtime commitment to WC and its students.
The Grogan Historic Plaza is located next to the Academic Building and the Doss Student Center. The plaza includes the iconic bell from WC’s original campus as well as the stone archway from the original “Old Main” Administration Building.
The ribbon cutting will precede WC’s annual Veterans Day Commemoration, which will begin at 10:50 a.m. at the adjacent Ed Kramer Veterans Flag Plaza.
Mr. Grogan served on the WC Board of Trustees from 1965 to 1978 and was a key player in the relocation of the campus from South Main Street to its current location.
“Roy’s foresight is one of the main reasons we have the beautiful campus that we so proudly occupy today,” said Dr. Kevin Eaton, WC President.  “Roy was, and is, a visionary, and the fruit of that vision sits on this hill today.”
The Grogans have donated more than $120,000 to the college and the WC Foundation over the years, including a large gift establishing the Roy and Jeanne Grogan Scholarship Endowment. They were also among the founding donors of Project Opportunity, a non-profit foundation that provides full scholarships to Weatherford High School graduates attending WC. Mr. Grogan served as the president of Project Opportunity for most of the organization’s history.
Both of the Grogans attended Weatherford College in the 1940s. Mr. Grogan received the Alumnus of the Year Award in 1969 and the Carlos Hartnett Award from the WC Foundation in 2000.
“I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of this honor than Roy and Jeanne Grogan,” Eaton said.
The public is invited to the ribbon cutting. For more information, contact the college at 817-598-6275.
