SUMMARY:First Monday Trade Days This Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Though it is not First Monday weekend\, the First Monday Trade Days Event will be in full swing this Friday\, Saturday and Sunday. A poll of the monthly event's vendors and customers resulted in moving the event up a week in order to not conflict with the Thanksgiving holiday. "Rain or shine\, holiday or not\, Parks and Recreation staff is ready to serve\; however\, a successful event for vendors and customers is our main goal\," stated Danielle Felts\, Director of Parks and Recreation. "Several vendors and customers approached staff with the possibility of changing the weekend of this month's event due to the fact that it actually falls on Thanksgiving weekend. The event is open Friday-Sunday\; however\, some vendors begin set-up Thursday or are traveling Thursday arriving early Friday and when you take into consideration that Thursday is Thanksgiving\, and Friday is one of the largest retail shopping days of the year\, that did not present a successful forecast for our event." City staff polled First Monday vendors and customers with the idea of changing the date and there was an overwhelming response to do so. Hundreds of fliers announcing the change of date have been distributed\, and key areas have been targeted with the information as well. Felts added\, "Vendors have been optimistic and have taken on the attitude that they have the opportunity to kick off the shopping season\, which is exciting! Our goal is to ensure that everyone involved is successful\; throughout our entire community. If we can create family fun and shopping this weekend at the First Monday Event\, and encourage folks to shop local during Black Friday next weekend\, our entire community will benefit." The First Monday Event is hosted by the City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Department. The event is held at Heritage Park along Santa Fe Drive in Weatherford\, 9am to 4pm\, Friday Sunday.
