SUMMARY:Fire Prevention Week
DESCRIPTION:October 7\, 2021 -- Is there a beep or a chirp coming out of your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm? What does that sound mean? Knowing the difference can save your home and your family. \n\nState Farm Agent Lindsay Ellis and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are teaming up with the Weatherford Fire Department to promote fire safety during this year's Fire Prevention Week from Oct 3 9\, 2021. The campaign educates everyone about the different sounds that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make. \n\nEllis donated the NFPA "Sounds of Fire Safety" kit to the fire department which includes one large banner\, 15 posters\, and 100 of each: adult fire safety brochures\, children's activity books\, newsletters\, stickers\, magnets\, and bags. The kit will help prepare for Fire Prevention Week and educating the community. \n\n"Recognizing the sounds of fire safety will help all of us know when there is a fire or carbon monoxide hazard\," says Ellis. "Whether it's a beeping sound or a chirping sound\, it's time to take action."\n\nConsider these sounds of fire tips: \n\n	A continuous set of three loud beeps - beep\, beep\, beep means smoke or fire. Get out\, call 9-1-1\, and stay out.\n	A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.\n	All smoke alarms must be replaced after 10 years.\n	Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.\n	Make sure your smoke and CO alarms meet the needs of all your family members\, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.\n\nGet more information about 2021 Fire Prevention Week at www.firepreventionweek.org. You'll find kids' activities\, downloadable materials\, safety messages\, and more to help you start planning your community events!
